Abstract:

In this article, a timeline of women transportation pioneers is presented including: Bertha Benz, the first person to drive an automobile long-distance (1888); the first American woman to receive an official drivers license (1900); Dorothée Pullinger, one of the first female car designers (1920s); the first female U.S. Transportation Secretary (1983); the first African-American woman to lead a major transit agency (1983); and the first American woman to act as commanding officer of a mega-cruise ship (2015).
