Abstract:

This report provides transportation practitioners and decision makers with guidance for implementing effective metropolitan freight transportation strategies. The report outlines thirty strategies that are tailored to the specific circumstances that are found in local areas. It also identifies and describes sixteen factors that impact implementation. Individual chapters address the state of the practice in metropolitan freight transportation strategies; strategy resource matrix and urban freight implementation tool development; urban freight implementation tool user operation and fact sheet practitioner guidance; pilot studies of three cities (Dallas, Texas; St. Louis, Missouri; and Tampa, Florida); and conclusions and suggestions for future research.
