Title: Factors Affecting Driver's Perceptual Bias of Aggressive Driving Behavior in China
Accession Number: 01697922
Record Type: Component
Abstract: Many drivers unconsciously exhibit aggressive driving behaviors. Perceptual bias of aggressive driving behavior is one of the main causes of traffic accidents. In this paper, the authors put forward targeted measures to improve the accuracy of self-assessment. A questionnaire was designed to collect the drivers' socio-economic characteristics, personalities, and information on the external environment. Six hundred and ninety valid samples were obtained from drivers participating in the retraining course. Based on the penalty points of drivers and surveyed data (self-reported) conducted in Nanjing, China, a binary logistic model was built to explore how various factors affect drivers’ perceptual bias of aggressive driving behavior. The findings reveal that three variables significantly affect drivers’ perceptual bias of aggressive driving behavior; namely, vehicle type, personality characteristics, and external environment (work, road, and vehicle). This study can help devise targeted countermeasures to reduce traffic accidents caused by perceptual bias.
