Title: SOLAR ENERGY: HEDGE AGAINST THE FUTURE (ABRIDGMENT)

Availability: Find a library where document is available Abstract: Two solar energy projects, undertaken by the Oklahoma Department of Transportation are given as examples of the sort of activities the transportation industry should engage in to guard against future energy cost increases. An asphalt storage tank heated by solar power instead of propane began operation in Muskogee in April 1977. The cost of the solar part of the installation was recovered in less than two years through reduced operating expenses. The savings came not only from lower fuel costs but also from lower maintenance costs than a propane unit. Another project still in the planning stage is the use of solar energy to supply heat, hot water, and air condition to a new field division headquarters building in Buffalo, Oklahoma.
