Abstract:
This brief article describes the use of design-build (DB) and alternative technical concepts in San Bernardino, California's Devore Interchange project. DB training facilitated the development of the contract documents and coordination. ATCs were approved that changed the project’s geometrics, improved route continuity, reduced the right-of-way, and ultimately saved nearly $25 million. In addition, the project was delivered 30 months earlier than it would have using the traditional delivery process.
