Abstract: During the last decade, ecommerce has emerged as a major producer of commercial vehicle trips in urban areas. One market that has seen a lot of innovation and changes due to the availability of technology-based services is the market for food, including both prepared meals and groceries. This study uses field data collected at eight large residential buildings in four boroughs of New York City to characterize the food delivery trips generated by online and in-store home-delivery services. The study investigates delivery frequencies, parcel lot sizes, delivery times, and modes of delivery.
