Abstract: This paper presents a solution of back-calculation analysis of rigid-pavement parameters using the barycentric horizontal distance of deflection basin, called HD-BACK. The HD-BACK adopted simplified calculations and leads to easy application, in which the deflection information of each sensor of FWD (Falling Weight Deflectometer) is used, and the principle of back-calculation is to minimize the sum of the squared errors of the measured deflection basin. The closed-form solution procedure of the HD-BACK is proposed and a corresponding numerical calculation MATLAB program is developed for this purpose. Comprehensive comparison is conducted among the presented method and two widely used closed-form back-calculations called ILLI-BACK and NUS-BACK, respectively. The sensitivity, robustness and efficiency of the compared three methods are first analyzed using a numerical example, and subsequently, the proposed method is validated with the field measured deflections by FWD as inputs, where the squared errors between the field measured and back-calculated deflections are investigated. The results show that the proposed HD-BACK has the great potential in back-calculation of rigid-pavement parameters, with the lower sensitivity and the lower fitting error to the measured deflection.
