Abstract:

This study aims to determine passenger boarding and alighting service times of urban bus transportation and investigate the variables that affect them. Field study was conducted in four bus stops in Istanbul where passenger boarding and alighting service times were investigated at user-by-user level with regard to specified variables. Average boarding service time and average alighting service time, in total and regardless of specified variables are calculated as 3.54 and 1.26 sec/pass, respectively. Two separate multi regression models were estimated for boarding and alighting processes due to the difference on their nature. Gender and age of passengers, bus crowdedness and bus floor height are selected as explanatory variables in these models.
