Title: Emerging Innovations for Mobility and Traffic Operations Through Texas Public-Private Partnerships

Availability: Transportation Research Board Business Office 500 Fifth Street, NW Abstract: Public-private partnerships (3P) are being used frequently in the Dallas-Fort Worth, Texas area. One project is complete, six are in various phases of development, and three have authority to proceed. 3P project bring innovations. This study focused on identifying innovations relating to mobility and traffic operations. Interviews were conducted with staff from the state department of transportation, builders, and municipalities to identify innovations brought by two projects. Those two projects were the DFW Connector and the LBJ Express. A total of 89 innovations were identified. This paper broadly identifies groups of innovations with some limited detail on a select few of these innovations. These innovations cover new highway infrastructure construction technologies, communication methodologies, and traffic management innovations that will define future expectations of traditional highway project delivery practices. Finally, other innovations are offered for future 3P projects.
