DISCUSSIONS OF SOME OF THE SOCIOLOGICAL EFFECTS OF HIGHWAYS AND OF THE DIFFERENT WAYS IN WHICH HIGHWAYS AFFECT PEOPLE ARE INTRODUCED. INCLUDED ARE COMMENTS ON THE TRAFFIC GENERATION CHARACTERISTICS OF HOUSEHOLDS, THE EFFECTS HIGHWAYS HAVE ON THE SUPPLY OF COMMUNITY LEADERS, THE ATTITUDES OF THESE LEADERS, AND HIGHWAY EFFECTS ON THE RECREATION OR OTHER NONWORK ASSOCIATIONS. THE SOCIOLOGICAL EFFECTS OF HIGHWAYS ARE EVERYWHERE APPARENT.
