Abstract:

In this paper, a rail wear model consisting of vehicle-track dynamics simulation, the trace method, non-Hertz theory and materials wear model is presented. Field data from a high-speed railway in China was tested to validate the model and the comparison shows the calculation is in accord with the field situation nicely. Afterward, the wear evolution of rail on a curved track of high-speed railway is analyzed with the conclusion that the wear evolution of high rail and low rail is almost the same, which is, in circular curves, the wear is uneven, while in transition curves, the wear increases linearly with the curvature. Moreover, the wear of the joint between circular curves and transition curves is the severest. At last, the wear region width development of rail head can be divided into 3 phases and the development in first 2 quarters is far bigger than the other two.
