Abstract:

Developing measures that provide meaningful indications of performance—and that drive better performance—is the essence of performance management. This article discusses how to develop and apply metrics for performance management. Performance management entails measuring, analyzing, and acting—and then repeating the steps. The author describes how this approach was successfully implemented by the Missouri Department of Transportation.
