This article describes the Transportation Research Board’s second Strategic Highway Research Program (SHRP 2) Naturalistic Driving Study, which has combined technologies to gather objective, scientific information about what happens before a crash, when drivers experience a near-crash, and when drivers drive without incident. These data will help scientists, engineers, policy makers, and educators make significant improvements in highway safety.
