Abstract:
This issue contains 21 papers concerned with safety data, analysis and evaluation. Specific topics addressed include: hot-spot identification; variable speed limits; fatigue-related crashes; real-time risk assessment; traffic safety investigation; postencroachment time as a surrogate for opposing left-turn crashes; motorist behavioral responses to risk-based charging mechanisms; primary and secondary crash identification; surrogate safety measures for simulation-based conflict studies; macroscopic road safety prediction; and crash severity analysis. Other topics discussed include: truck corridor crash severity; on-duty struck-by crashes; an evolutionary game theoretic approach to rear-end events on congested freeways; crash databases in Australasia, the European Union and the United States; naturalistic driving study data for safety-critical events; horizontal curves on rural undivided roads; driver behavior; motion prediction methods for surrogate safety analysis; crash-contributing factors; and traffic safety improvements in Edmonton, Canada.
