In 2008, MoDOT began its first research program to develop a set of resistance factors based on local practice and geology. Using historical construction records of dynamic testing, new resistance factors were developed for driven piles. The resistance factors obtained from the 2008-2010 research effort were strictly based on the assumption that the dynamic methods (PDA and CAPWAP) provide the actual ultimate capacity of the pile, as no records of static pile load test data were available for verification. In 2012, a series of static load tests were conducted at new construction bridge sites along the Missouri highway system to adjust the 2008-10 resistance factors and evaluate their use in Missouri LRFD guidelines. The results show that the data produced by dynamic methods is acceptable to develop resistance factors based on the completed pile load tests conducted at the different new construction bridge sites.
