Abstract:

Vehicle-to-Infrastructure (V2I) wireless communication plays a critical role in enabling vehicles to receive services provided by Cooperative Vehicle and Infrastructure System. In Vehicular Ad Hoc Network (VANET), these services become accessible through periodical broadcasts of WAVE (Wireless Access for Vehicular Environments) Service Advertisement (WSA) messages over the CCH (control channel) transmitted by roadside infrastructure. As suggested by the IEEE 1609.3 standard, repeating WSA more times per CCH interval could increase the probability of successful WSA reception. However, massive redundant information brought by this approach may lead to safety-critical CCH congestion and latency problems. To solve this problem, this paper proposes an approach--Adaptive Adjusting WSA Repetition Time (AART). First, the level of the current WSA-awareness and the current CCH status is determined through an algorithm. Then the time of WSA repetition has a corresponding numerical adjustment. Thus, AART helps to achieve a balance between the WSA reception rate and the CCH communication quality. Simulation results confirm that when the time of WSA repetition is adjusted through an on-demand and adaptive way, an efficient and robust WAVE advertisement procedure could be realized under various traffic situations.
