SOME 20 DIFFERENT MATERIALS AND NEARLY 50 DIFFERENT COMBINATIONS AND METHODS WERE USED. FOUR EXPERIMENTAL PROJECTS BENEATH CONCRETE PAVEMENTS AND SIX PROJECTS WITH TRAFFIC BOUND ROADS ARE REPORTED. THE COMPARISONS ARE ON THE BASIS OF CRACK RATIOS. FOR PAVEMENTS WITH NO CENTER JOINT, SLAG SUBBASE YIELDED NO LONGITUDINAL CRACKS; SAND GAVE A LONGITUDINAL CRACK RATIO OF 0.095; GRAVEL, 0.20; A CEMENT-CLAY MIXTURE, 0.29; WHILE UPON THE UNTREATED SECTIONS THE AVERAGE RATIO WAS 0.60. /AUTHOR/
