Abstract:

Fuel has a direct bearing on the means and resources to respond to emergencies and to maintain the infrastructure. Protecting and carefully managing this asset ensures that fuel is available whenever it is needed. This article summarizes some lessons for the fuel supply chain that have emerged from recent disasters. Because of the importance of fuel for emergency response operations, emergency plans at all levels should incorporate courses of action to close the gap in what may be the weakest link—access to fuel.
