Abstract:

THE RESULTS OF STRENGTH TESTS ON SOIL MATERIALS ARE STRONGLY INFLUENCED BY INHERENT QUALITY, DENSITY, DRY CURING, AND CONFINEMENT DURING ABSORPTION. A TENTATIVE TRIAXIAL COMPRESSION TEST PROCEDURE HAS BEEN DEVELOPED ON THE BASIS OF STUDIES PERTAINING TO THESE FACTORS. THIS PROCEDURE EMPLOYS SIMPLIFIED EQUIPMENT, THEREBY MAKING IT POSSIBLE TO PERFORM THESE TESTS IN NEARLY ANY NORMALLY EQUIPPED SOILS LABORATORY. THE PROCEDURE SHOWS PROMISE OF GREAT USEFULNESS IN THE SOLUTION OF PROBLEMS RELATING TO SUBGRADES AND LAYERED SYSTEMS OF SUB-BASES AND FLEXIBLE BASES. /AUTHOR/
