Abstract:

The North Carolina Department of Transportation (DOT) maintains an extensive network of low volume roads. The chip seal has been employed for many years as a logical preservation option. This article discusses the ways that the North Carolina DOT found to improve chip seal performance and the benefits that were realized when these improvement methods were applied.
