Abstract:

THE GENERAL CLASSIFICATION OF SOILS IS OUTLINED ON THE CRITERIA OF MEASURABLE STRAINS OF ELASTIC, PLASTIC AND FLUID NATURE. THE RESULTS OF FORCES ACTING ON A SOIL ARE THE BASIS OF CLASSIFICATION, NOT WHAT CONSTITUENTS MAKE UP THE SOIL. THE COMPLETE SYSTEM WILL ALSO REQUIRE A STUDY OF EFFECTS OF FOREIGN INGREDIENTS, GIVING THE INFORMATION NECESSARY FOR ARTIFICIAL CONTROL OF SOILS AS WELL AS FOR THE DETERMINATION OF MAXIMUM DEVIATION IN STRAINS UNDER KNOWN FORCES. /AUTHOR/
