Abstract:

Several studies have traced the influence of bicycle tourism and the cycling industry on local and regional economies; emerging studies are looking at the cyclist as a consumer and the potential economic benefits for specific types of businesses. Following a review of the earlier studies, the authors describe phenomena such as bicycle-supported development and innovative programs and practices, such as bike corrals, bike sharing, and bike valet parking.
