Abstract:

Walking and bicycling are not exclusively recreational—they are viable, beneficial, economical, and environment-friendly modes of transportation. Research in the planning, design, operations, maintenance, and economics of pedestrian and bicycle facilities is helping to integrate these modes into the transportation system, as discussed in the articles in this special theme issue of TR News.
