Availability: Find a library where document is available Abstract: This presentation includes an overview of several efforts directed to aid in the implementation of the AASHTO Mechanistic–Empirical Pavement Design Guide (MEPDG) in the state of Hawaii. The presentation discusses a few issues with existing software designed for manipulating traffic loading information (TRAFLOAD). An important problem identified is that in some situations the derived number of axles per vehicle is erroneous. A summary of research aimed at developing models for characterization of pavement material behavior, including unbound materials and hot-mix asphalt (HMA), is provided. In addition, the presentation also discusses some locally developed pavement management system (PMS) tools that could provide useful information for the local calibration of the MEPDG.
