Title: INVESTIGATION OF MOTOR TRUCK IMPACT
Accession Number: 00207132
Record Type: Component
Abstract: INVESTIGATION WAS CONDUCTED TO: (1) DETERMINE CUSHIONING EFFECT AS INFLUENCED BY TIRE DESIGN, RUBBER COMPOSITION, ROAD SURFACE ROUGHNESS, LOAD, SPEED, AND TRUCK DESIGN, AND (2) DETERMINE STRESSES IN SLABS AS INFLUENCED BY MOTOR WHEEL IMPACTS. TEST TRUCKS EQUIPPED WITH MEASURING APPARATUS ARE DRIVEN OVER SPECIAL ROAD SECTIONS AND THE IMPACTS ARE COMPUTED BY FORMULA. IT WAS FOUND THAT LOW IMPACT IS TO BE EXPECTED FROM PNEUMATIC TIRES ON ROADS OF NORMAL SMOOTHNESS. HIGH IMPACT FROM 200 TO 500 PERCENT OF THE STATIC LOAD IS TO BE EXPECTED FROM SOLID TIRES ESPECIALLY IF THEY HAVE BEEN REDUCED IN THICKNESS BY WEAR.
