Abstract:

DATA AND ANALYSES EVOLVED FROM THE AASHO ROAD TEST HAVE BEEN USED AS A GUIDE IN DEVELOPING A METHOD OF DESIGN FOR FLEXIBLE PAVEMENTS IN MASS., U.S.A. THE METHOD IS SIMPLE YET FLEXIBLE AND TAKES ACCOUNT OF SOIL PROPERTIES, TRAFFIC CONDITIONS, AND MATERIALS. RECOMMENDATIONS ARE MADE ON THE DETECTION, CONTROL AND TREATMENT OF MATERIALS SUSCEPTIBLE TO DAMAGE BY FROST ACTION. THE USE OF DEEP SURFACE LAYERS IS RECOMMENDED TO REDUCE CRACKING. /RRL/
