Title: “You’ve got the Data, Now What?” Incorporating Historical Data from CAD/AVL Systems to Meet Agency On-Time Performance Goals
Accession Number: 01157024
Record Type: Component
Availability: American Public Transportation Association 1666 K Street, NW, Suite 1100 Abstract: In 2002 Metro Transit installed the Siemens (Continental) TransitMaster system. By 2003 the system had been tested and historical data was being collected. For the first two years, the syste, struggled to find a comprehensive way to use the data. Running the standard ‘house’ reports that came with the system took too long and the all or nothing nature of them left the user confused about how to manage them. Fortunately, the supervisor at Transit Control Center Supervisor was willing to learn Crystal Reports and by 2005 customized reports were developed. The custom reports were geared to specific departments with user input. The reports are summary based with drill down features that are easy to run and understand. Once the reports became available, the challenge became using the data effectively to measure on-time performance. However the General Manager was committed and thanks to his guidance we began a pilot project to identify a process that could be used going forward to manage the data.
