Abstract:

This paper presents the evolution of the Chinese rural transit system and proposes a planning framework to solve their emerging challenges. Rural transit can solve the traditional transportation problems that exist in the Chinese rural areas, and it has many advantages to help the Chinese government build a high efficiency rural transportation system. The findings of this paper are therefore helpful to rural transit planners and researchers in China and other developing countries. The proposed rural transit framework encompasses emerging issues observed in both developing and developed countries. It can therefore provide an insight into the planning development process that can offer an alternate perspective into the planning issues and needs that are useful to planners worldwide.
