Abstract:

These 20 papers are concerned with the following aspects of bituminous materials and mixtures: variability in the modified Lottman test (AASHTO T283); noise and friction of dense-graded asphalt, stone matrix asphalt, and porous friction course; bonding of hot mix asphalt (HMA) and concrete surfaces; dynamic modulus test to evaluate moisture susceptibility of asphalt mixtures; fatigue models of HMA; the energy ratio concept as a predictor of top-down cracking; determining representative volume elements of asphalt concrete mixtures without damage; low design temperatures of asphalt pavements in dry-freeze regions; application of the generalized J-integral to crack propagation modeling of asphalt concrete; finite element analysis of HMA cracking; use of small samples to predict fatigue lives of field cores; micromechanical modeling of HMA; low-temperature field performance and laboratory testing of 10 test sections; precision of AASHTO TP62-07; refinement of flow number as determined by asphalt mixture performance tester; long-lasting asphalt mixtures; fracture resistance of Illinois HMA overlay mixtures; effective temperature for analysis of permanent deformation and fatigue of asphalt mixtures; the E* test using HMA specimens with varying void contents; and artificial neural networks for estimating the dynamic modulus of asphalt concrete.
