The North Carolina Department of Transportation (NCDOT) recognized the need to provide a career development program for employees classified as transportation supervisors. Issues facing the transportation supervisor were the lack of managerial and technical training. The department actively took steps to address these deficiencies by developing needed training programs along with a competency-based pay program. The training programs developed included the Transportation Supervisors Academy and the transportation supervisors conferences.
