This paper presents the development of an Internet based spatial data warehousing approach for ATIS. The approach proposed here is similar to the "active or eager" approach in data warehousing. The requirement is that one needs to know in advance the nature of the queries that will be invoked by end users. This will help in raw data being extracted, filtered and aggregated into relevant groups. The application was implemented in Central Florida along a 63 km (39 miles) stretch of I–4 corridor from Lake Mary to Disney. The main objective of this research effort is to provide synthesized, reliable and real-time traffic information to regional travelers through an intuitive map based website. A color-coded current traffic condition maps with three speed break categories; free-flow (green), slow-down (yellow), and heavily congested (red) conditions are provided. The travel time prediction module allows users to pick entry and exit ramps along the freeway to determine the estimated travel time and delay. The website also provides relevant traffic information such as traffic camera images, dynamic messages, construction reports, and hurricane evacuation information. This work integrates technologies such as Geographic Information System (GIS), Database Management System (DBMS), multimedia, and the Internet for providing traveler information to the end users in the most effective fashion.
