The primary intent of this research is to determine the most appropriate factors that describe rutting performance through the study of Weibull parameters and as a result of this, determine the relative performance of the mixes tested. A total of 177 RSST-CH tests conducted under various testing conditions and material properties were utilized in this analysis. The mix types included, conventional dense-graded asphalt concrete with AR4000 binder (AR4000-D), Rubberized Asphalt concrete with gap gradation (RAC-G), and dense- and gap-graded mixes with MAC15, MB15, and MB4 polymer and rubber-modified binders. A three-stage shear Weibull curve can characterize the shape of versus, where n is the number of load repetitions. Each RSST-CH test was fit with a three-stage Weibull curve that was completed with genetic algorithm. Then, three-stage Weibull parameters for all the tests were collected, summarized, and analyzed. Summary boxplots and tree-based regression/category modeling were utilized to determine the relationships of Weibull parameters associated with the testing variables. The most promising parameters to identify rutting performance were found to be the intercepts divided by slopes of a Weibull curve at stages II and III respectively. The three-stage Weibull procedure is very promising method of analysis, especially from the standpoint of mixes that never reach the conventional criterion for RSST-CH testing to 5 percent permanent shear strain.
