Title: GIS Forecast of Potential Interchange Land Use Patterns to Support Access Management
Accession Number: 01046187
Record Type: Component
Availability: Transportation Research Board Business Office 500 Fifth Street, NW Abstract: Interstate 22 is nearing completion in Alabama to connect Birmingham, AL to Memphis, TN. As part of this effort, geographic information system (GIS) technology is being used to predict potential interchange land use patterns, to assist in the possible implementation of access management strategies to minimize the impact of the development. ArcGIS software and available data for the counties near the interstate location were used to collect and analyze land around the proposed and constructed interchanges to identify potential land use. The process of predicting land use was used to support future work on traffic levels and access management issues around the interchange locations.
