Accession Number: 01024766
Record Type: Component
Availability: Find a library where document is available Abstract: This point of view article presents the authors' opinion that the ability of the U.S. freight transportation system to handle rapid growth in international trade is limited. They believe that a long-term planning and research perspective is needed and should begin now. They note that the Transportation Research Board can encourage efforts to strengthen multimodal freight planning, to recognize the role of freight transportation in the nation's economy, and to stimulate research to support the development of a freight network that can secure U.S. competitiveness in a global economy.
