Accession Number: 00978433
Record Type: Monograph
Availability: Find a library where document is available Abstract: This report focuses on the current practices relating to access location and design on crossroads in the vicinity of interchanges. It identifies standards and strategies used on new interchanges and on the retrofit of existing interchanges. In addition to a discussion of some of the planning, operation, and design practices for new and retrofit projects, several case studies are provided illustrating how various transportation agencies (states, provinces, toll authorities, and local) have dealt with access locations on interchange crossroads. Among the topics discussed are spacing standards, factors influencing access location, spacing measurement, and access management techniques for interchange crossroads. Information for this synthesis report was derived from a literature search, on-line questionnaire responses from various departments of transportation, a review of additional materials provided by the agencies, and follow-up interviews with agency contacts.
