Abstract:

The brochure describes bus rapid transit (BRT) as a complete rapid transit system that combines flexible service and new technologies to improve customer convenience and reduce delays. It describes the seven major components to BRT: running ways; stations; vehicles; service; route structure; fare collection; intelligent transportation systems. BRT, although a relatively new form of transit, has gained a reputation for being characterized by speed, comfort, reliability, and rider satisfaction. The brochure provides a brief overview of the seven major components and examples of existing BRT systems.
