Abstract:

This Innovations Deserving Exploratory Analysis (IDEA) project developed and tested a new class of inorganic polymer coating for corrosion protection of concrete reinforcing steel rebars for highway applications. Concrete rebars with or without polymer coatings were evaluated for corrosion using ASTM G-109 test. The test result showed significantly reduced corrosion activity for rebars coated with inorganic polymers. Extended tests continue at Florida Department of Transportation for evaluating the long-term corrosion protection by the polymer coating.
