Most research focuses on collection and quality of data with little emphasis on an integrated traffic data management system. Design of an integrated traffic data management system that allows for editing, storage, and reporting of traffic volumes, vehicle classification, and vehicle weight along with quality assurance of data is presented. The system includes the creation of new software and the use of existing software that has been modified to allow for the flagging of data errors, the reading of 1995 Traffic Monitoring Guide format data, and the aggregation of vehicle class data in suitable schemes to ease analysis. Procedures for the input of missing data and the correction of erroneous data are described. The system is user friendly and designed to operate under a Windows 3.1 or a Windows NT 4.0 environment. Refinements needed in the future are identified and presented.
