Abstract:

This article discusses the traditional objectives of taxi regulation, the reasons for limiting taxi licenses, and the criteria used to limit the number of taxi licenses. Also discussed are Quebec's taxi license buyback plan and new taxi services in Quebec (public transit by taxi, transportation for the disabled, school transportation, limousine services, taxi tourism services, etc.). In conclusion, it is pointed out that the future of taxi service depends on its ability to adapt to the transportation needs of various customers, that professional development should include both new and experienced drivers to maximize positive returns for the industry, and that care must be exercised when regulatory actions are taken because measures introduced today will have long-term repercussions. An insert with this article discusses professional training for both new and experienced drivers within a taxi marketing strategy.
