Abstract:

This project focused on the development of a prototype photochromic system suitable for use as a component in an automotive anti-glare rearview mirror. A system analysis was conducted to define the sensitivity requirements given regulatory factors (National Highway Traffic Safety Administration Standard 108), environmental parameters (solar spectrum), ergonomic factors (spectral sensitivity of the eye) and technical constraints (spectral response of candidate photoconductors). A theoretical analysis was generated and a few prototype photochromic systems were constructed for laboratory testing.
