Availability: Find a library where document is available Abstract: A 2-year study of flood problems in Illinois identified deficiencies in existing programs and proposed a comprehensive program that coordinate the resources of local, state, and Federal Governments. The program has 6 goals: reduction of the urban flood damages; prevention of future damage; speeding up and strengthening the State's response to limited flooding problems; seeking reinbursement for property damage where flooding cannot be eliminated; reduction of agricultural flood damages presently occurring in Illinois; and strengthening the ability of local governments to solve urban drainage and flood problems. Initial effort will inventory and rank problems by severity so that priorities may be established. Efforts designed to achieve the above goals are listed. Some of these efforts relate to the design of state flood control projects, increasing federal and local government financial participation, the prevention of new damageable development on the flood plains, the protection of state investment dollars, the provision of data to local governments to implement their own emergency flooding programs. Actions are also listed which relate to the provision of assistance to local government units in solving water damage problems, participation in Federal Flood Insurance programs, and agricultural flood control.
