Accession Number: 00633287
Record Type: Monograph
Availability: Find a library where document is available Abstract: This Circular summarizes ideas presented at a workshop organized by the Transportation Research Board of the National Research Council at the Beckman Center in Irvine, California, July 27-29, 1992. Participants included representatives of the research community and the transportation industry, as well as representatives of the government agencies that are funders and users of the research discussed. The purpose of the workshop was to discuss the current state of the art in reducing the prevalence of alcohol and other drugs in transportation accidents in all modes, to identify gaps in knowledge, and to establish research needs and priorities for the next decade. This proposed research agenda is designed to provide information and guidance to the U.S. transportation industry, governments, institutions, safety advocates, and others to further reduce the role of alcohol and other drugs in transportation accidents. The contents of this Circular are organized as follows: Executive Summary; Alcohol and Other Drugs in Transportation: Research Needs for the Next Decade; Epidemiology (Patterns and Trends); Epidemiological Research Agenda; Experimentation (Field and Laboratory); Experimental Research Agenda; Evaluation (Intervention Strategies); Evaluation Research Agenda; Conclusions; and Appendixes. The Appendixes include the following: (A) Program Outline for the Workshop; (B) Topics; (C) List of Workshop Participants; (D) Presentations (entered individually in the TRIS database); (E) Selected Comments; and (F) Additional References.
