Availability: Find a library where document is available Abstract: This synthesis will be of interest to administrators, designers, computer personnel, and others interested in the operation and management of computer-aided design and drafting (CADD) systems. Information is provided on selection and implementation of CADD systems, current use in state departments of transportation (DOTs), and issues involved in managing a CADD system and CADD operators. Most state DOTs either have or plan to acquire CADD systems to improve their design, drafting, and mapping operations. This report of the Transportation Research Board describes the processes for selecting and implementing a CADD system, current practices of state DOTs in applying and using CADD, and training and performance issues with respect to CADD personnel.
