Abstract:

This chapter, Chapter 9 of the "Guide to Earthwork Construction," discusses how to handle special soil deposits and materials that pose unusual problems for embankment foundations. Deposits and materials covered include landfills, dumps, wastes from industrial and mining operations, lightweight fill materials, shales, swelling clays, and collapsible soils.
