Monograph

Abstract:

This literature review was conducted to determine the current state of knowledge of the theoretical and technical aspects of adsorption, and how adsorption of polar functionalities influences the chemistry of asphalt-aggregate interface. This information is used in conjunction with SHRP A-003B research to understand the chemistry occurring at the asphalt-aggregate interface. The review covered the thermodynamics of adsorption at the solid/liquid interface; adsorption isotherms for single-solute systems; multicomponent equilibria; chemistry of adsorption (adsorbates, experimental procedures, modelling of adsorption processes, adsorbate-adsorbent interactions, and adsorption mode), and significance to SHRP A-003B research.
