Title: IMPACT OF STATION DESIGN ON RETROFITTING FOR THE HANDICAPPED
Accession Number: 00371863
Record Type: Component
Digital Copy: Abstract: The operational problems associated with the provisions of vertical access for the mobility limited in the remodeling or new construction of rapid transit stations are discussed. Examples from the Chicago rapid transit stations are described. Ramps have solved vertical access in some stations, but it has been impossible to eliminate the vertical and horizontal gaps between cars and platforms. Future needs regarding wheelchair research and development are noted.
