Title: STRUCTURAL AND ARCHITECTURAL DESIGN SOLUTIONS FOR VERTICAL MOVEMENT IN TRANSIT STATIONS
Accession Number: 00371862
Record Type: Component
Digital Copy: Abstract: The questions considered here are whether vertical conveyances for the handicapped should be off-the-shelf equipment, or if new research and development is necessary. It is held that the elevator offers clear advantages for most situations. Examples of situations in the Washington Metro System are described. Special design features for elevators that serve the handicapped are noted.
