Abstract: Passenger orientation (pathfinding) is one of the important factors for the layout design of comprehensive transportation hubs. However, existing layout methods of static guidance information within the hub are too complex to have a poor guiding effect on the spatial location and reasonable density. From the perspective of passenger information demand, this study aims to determine the location and density of static guidance information within the hub. With the method of theoretical research and practical investigation, there are two types of information demand in the pathfinding process. One is at the path decision point where multiple path options exist; the other is at the information enhancement point between decision points, which can confirm that the pathfinder is still on the correct path. According to the interactive features of pathfinding behavior and guidance information, the abstract relationship model is established between the macrobehavioral characteristic and the micropsychological state. Moreover, based on walking speed analysis, the judgment criterion of passenger psychology is proposed to determine the spatial location and density of guidance information demand. The analysis results of Shanghai Hongqiao International Airport show that, under the threshold of the speed drop section given in the study, 80% of passengers’ information demand is satisfied when guidance information spacing is 47 meters, and 60% of information demand is satisfied when guidance information spacing is 56 meters.
