Title: Vehicle Cooperation Around Lane-Changing
Accession Number: 01697733
Record Type: Component
Abstract: This paper studied vehicle cooperation towards lane-changing (LC). Two types of cooperation were examined: indirect cooperation through courtesy LC and direct cooperation when the immediate followers of LC increase spacing level prior to LC.Two types of LC, mandatory and discretionary LC were distinguished. Analysis of the NGSIM trajectory data suggests that (1) vehicles are more cooperative towards mandatory LC, and (2) aggressive drivers are more cooperative than conservative drivers. Moreover, it’s found that with higher cooperation level, the LC vehicles enter the target lane at a lower speed and the immediate followers have more speed reduction.
