This brief article highlights a Michigan Department of Transportation design-bid-build (DBB) project that involved the rehabilitation of eight bridges and the roadway between them along US-10 in Midland County. Confidential alternative technical concepts (ATCs) and alternative pavement bidding (APB) were utilized and ultimately permitted the construction to be completed nearly one year ahead of schedule. The success of the project demonstrates the value of obtaining early contractor involvement.
